Sunset at Uluwatu

We checked out Kuta beach last night which definitely was not worth the time! We were trying to decide between Seminyak and Kuta beach, and decided that Kuta maybe more interesting as this was the “true” Bali and how it was discovered by the australian surfer crowd. And it was exactly that – very touristy and crowded with surfer/backpacker crowd. There were also a lot of street vendors hustling and shoving their wares into your face, and following you around. (The “wares” included a wide range from illegal drugs to cigarettes!) We walked around for a bit, got a couple of drinks at a hookah bar, and hailed a cab back to the hotel.

Today, we have planned a sunset trip to Pura Luhur Uluwatu. This is a temple at the top of a cliff and is best visited at sunset, when the sea breeze rises and you can hear the waves crashing at the bottom of the cliff. We hiked to the top of the cliff (only 10 min) to take some great pictures. There are several monkeys here, so make sure that you remove any loose hanging jewelry, shades etc.

A Balinese Spa Date

We must start this post with a full disclaimer – We are NOT morning people! And I’m talking cranky-and-mean without ample time to “wake-up” and savor our cup of coffee. But a combination of jet lag and vacation always gets us out of bed in a jiffy without the need for any type of caffeine – you know, we may have just found a permanent cure! (get the drift 😉 )

We had been waking up at 6am, well-rested and ready to eat!! Breakfast was exactly what comes to mind when I think of a vacation in Asia – lots of exotic fruits, flavorful local cuisine and some fresh coconut water to stay hydrated by the beach – ah!
